Delegate Cline Statement on Appointment of Filson as First Woman Circuit Court Judge to 25th Judicial District

Richmond – Delegate Ben Cline (R-Rockbridge) issued the following statement on the election by the General Assembly of The Honorable Anita D. Filson, of Rockbridge, as a judge of the 25th Judicial Circuit for a term of eight years, and Correy R. Smith, of Augusta, as a juvenile and domestic relations district court judge of the 25th Judicial District for a term of six years, both terms commencing July 1, 2016. Judge Filson will take the seat left by Judge Michael Irvine following his retirement, and Correy Smith will take Judge Filson’s seat in the juvenile and domestic relations district court.

“I congratulate Judge Filson on her appointment as the first woman on the bench of the 25th Judicial Circuit,” Cline said. “I am also pleased with the election of Correy Smith to take Judge Filson’s JDR position. I know both Mr. Smith and Judge Filson will be fair and impartial jurists who will serve the people of Rockbridge, Augusta, Lexington, and Buena Vista well.”

Cline represents the 24th House District, including the Cities of Lexington and Buena Vista, Bath County, Rockbridge County, and parts of Amherst and Augusta Counties. He was elected in 2002, and re-elected to his eighth term in November 2015. Cline is a member of the House Commerce and Labor Committee, the Militia, Police, and Public Safety Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Courts of Justice Committee. He is House Co-Chairman of the Conservative Caucus.
